this week i need to carry out as much research and feedback as possible ; i need to prepare all visual material that i want to include in my report.i need to collect all supporting material (notes,essay,plans,examples of work etc) in a folder in my laptop.

Already we made an event on facebook and a facebook group so i shall make a write survey and and a facebook survey about our cramba event.

WOMAD festival

WOMAD

There are 12 weeks and 2 days until WOMAD 2010

Bringing together many forms of music, arts and dance from countries and cultures around the world on seven separate stage and workshop areas.

WOMAD stands for World of Music, Arts and Dance, the festival returns to the picturesque site at Charlton Park, near Malmesbury in Wiltshire. The dates for the 22,500 capacity event are provisionally expected to be Friday 23rd to Sunday 25th July 2010.

Line-up

Headlining this year's festival is Malian afro-pop star Salif Keita, the world-famous Drummers of Burundi, and indigenous Australian superstar Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu, plus the legendary Gil Scott-Heron.

Also performing are Congolese street musicians Staff Benda Bilili, Jamaican star (and Massive Attack collaborator) Horace Andy with reggae group Dub Asante, Australian/Anglo institution Rolf Harris and his band, the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain, and

The full line-up will feature around 100 artists from 40 countries performing over the festival weekend. There's also a full programme of adult and childrens workshops (limited spaces available - turn up early!), a cabaret tent, fun fair, comedy, DJ sessions and live performance in the late night 'CLUB WOMAD', as well the normal festie fodder, and a huge market of world crafts.

On Thursday for 'early bird' ticket holders The Open Air Stage is expected to once again offer live music from 7-11pm.

The early bird ticket offer has ended. Full price tickets are now on sale priced at £125 for an adult weekend ticket.

Weekend tickets include access to the campsite and festival arena from 8am on Friday through to Monday. Disabled tickets bought now include a free ticket for your personal assistant. However, tickets will not be sent out until the registration form has been filled in and sent with the necessary documentation.

Global village

WOMAD's famous Global Village offers a dizzying choice of over 40 types of food from all over the globe and the Real Ale Bar is expected to return. As will the 'Taste the World' tent where some of the artists will show off their cooking, and usually stage an impromptu gig.

Workshops

Music Workshops for adults, will include participatory sessions with WOMAD artists. Festival goers will be able to immerse themselves in the stories behind the music, learn the origins of rare and unusual instruments, and more.

The 'Drum and Dance Tent' will also return with early-bird yoga sessions to salsa lessons to night owl happenings. Sing-Up in the Arboretum will host a celebration of songs from across the globe.

Gamelan

Woodland Gamelan are expected to return to this year's festival bringing their unique tools, tents and imaginations back to the arboretum, ready to convert the smallest piece of wood into the simplest instrument or create a full gamelan.

Children

The festival is aimed at the whole family, and allows all children aged 13 years and under, in for free. WOMAD promises even more stuff for kids and young people than ever before. 'The World of Kids' will have the usual comprehensive programme of workshops, entertainment and activities. These include the opportunity to create a range of art including masks, flags, giant structures, costumes and junk instruments. They are held throughout the weekend culminating in the Children's Parade which starts from the Children's area traditionally at 6pm on the Sunday 26 July and winds it's way through the main arena.

For more information about the work of the WOMAD Foundation both in the UK and around the world, festival goers will be able to visit the Friends of WOMAD stall onsite over the weekend.

Comedy Arena

The Comedy Arena's line-up will include Tommy Tiernan, Marcus Brigstocke, Russell Kane, Emo Philips, Ardal O'Hanlon, Rich Hall, and Richard Herring.

Theatre Arena

The Theatre Arena with an auditorium that has been designed to present a full schedule of contemporary physical, classical, performance and local productions bespoke to the festival. The theatre is not just contained within the confines of the stage, but throughout the festival.

Hidden Stage

The woods of Henham Park will hold a small and hidden stage that hosts intimate performances during the day, and music to dance the night away after dark.

Childrens Arena

There's a dedicated Children's Arena as diverse as the rest of the festival, where kids can enjoy books, art, music, theatre, heaps of participation and fun, from circus skills to handmade crafts to an appreciation of the woodland setting and the nature within it. Teens can also expect a full programme of events to keep them stimulated and entertained.

Six different theatre groups will offer themed drama workshops, traditional puppet shows, circus skills, Alice In Wonderland adventures through to making pizza with the Utensils Puppet Show. Young bookworms will find a library tent, books to borrow and take home, plus lots of storytelling sessions.

There will be a Baby and Toddler chill out tent which also includes a soft play area, free sunscreen, baby changing and food warming facilities and more

the house was pretty smelly and old and had a atmosphere too it.
the downstairs was small and cramped and as i walked up the narrow staircase i expected nore of the same but the hoouse seemed to expand suddenly in every which way possible. it just seemed to keep on going . it was if we were in alice and wonderland.
the house had four stories and each layer of the cake and something different too offer ..
as you walk through the front door onto the bottonm floor the main rooms are the ,living room and bedroom and bathroom but as we whent up stairs the rooms became more exstraveagant like a library and a gallery to name a few and it seemed like they were just trying to fill space.

a couple of weeks ago now i whent to the cinema in cambridge to see alice in wonderland . as we walked into the cinima i looked up to find some seats and ther was a sea of 3D glasses glanceing back at me like an army reay to atack and it was then that i realise that this was a real box office sel out. the workeed in magnisifent ways and worked wonders for the eyes adn mind. the 3D glasses help you to become part of the film and live on the edge as the charecters roll in and out of trouble. in alice and wonderland there are many ocation were she has fallen down a hole or into a tea pot or faut a jaberwokky. but with the privledje of 3D glasses you can fight and fall with alice.

Telegraph Online Review-Though no-one could doubt director Tim Burton’s flair for eye-popping imagery, he sometimes seems less interested in telling compelling stories. Yet the first hour of his Alice in Wonderland, a 3-D adaptation -- part animated, part live action -- of Lewis Carroll’s two Alice books, offers both narrative thrust and giddy, exaggerated visuals. It rattles along beautifully.

Early on, a 19 year old Alice (Mia Wasikowska) sulkily rides in a carriage to a gathering at a stately home. It gradually dawns on her that this is her engagement party, and a foppish young lord publicly proposes.

Employing a modern idiom – “I need a moment” – she flees, pursuing into a thicket a white rabbit only she can see, and falls down a rabbit hole – at which point the film kicks into overdrive.

In quick succession, Alice, locked in a chamber, figures out that a potion on a table can make her huge or tiny. She makes her escape into a Gothic landscape and soon meets her major allies – a Mad Hatter, a March Hare, a Cheshire cat and a wise caterpillar.

We know from a prologue she first visited this place at age six, and thought it was called Wonderland. In fact, it’s Underland, and it holds more dangers and challenges than she knew.

Linda Woolverton (The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast) has fashioned screenplay that radically re-imagines Carroll’s stories, and targets the lucrative teen market.

Thus Alice is sceptical, serious-minded, with a frequent frown. Her wisecrack about the aristocracy’s decline hints at radical views. We learn she wears neither a corset nor stockings; combined with rejecting her suitor, this suggests a young woman liberated before her time.

In Underland, these tendencies are underlined. Alice repeats that this is her dream and she can do what she likes: her sense of self-determination makes Carroll’s Alice seem insipid.

Given how enjoyably Burton’s film proceeds, this matters little. Mia Wasikowska, so striking in the HBO series In Treatment, confirms herself as a hugely impressive actress.

The creatures inhabiting Underland are voiced delightfully: Matt Lucas as dim, muttering Tweedledum and Tweedledee, represented as two amusing animated versions of himself: fruity-toned Alan Rickman as the caterpillar and Stephen Fry sweetly urbane as the evaporating Cheshire Cat.

There are two undeniable star turns. First: Helena Bonham Carter, as the Red Queen – cruel, petulant and childish, bawling “Off with his head!” on the flimsiest pretext. Her own real head, massively oversized, perches atop a small computer-generated body. With this funny, outrageous turn, Bonham Carter approaches national treasure status.

Burton’s long-time muse Johnny Depp is ideal as the mercurial Mad Hatter; with his shock of horizontal red hair and manic gap-toothed grin, he switches moods (and accents) in rapid succession.

Yet after an hour the story stops dead and anticipates Alice’s climactic battle with the Jabberwock. Sadly, it’s derivative, straight from Lord of the Rings, as armour-clad Alice brandishes a sword beneath lowering clouds and craggy cliffs. All the preceding playful inventiveness is jettisoned for a routine hero-myth climax. What a letdown.

Gold, enamelled in royal blue, green, red, and white, and set with four cut garnets, a cabochon garnet, two large pearls, one small pearl, and a baroque pearl. Circular with protrusions round the edge, a baroque pearl drop at the bottom, and a Silenus mask at the top, to which is attached a gold bow and loop for suspension. The front is decorated in low relief with Pegasus drinking from the fountain of Hippocrene against a blue background. On the back is an enamelled motif composed of interlacing circles, Ds and lozenges with a flower in the centre. The hinged back opens to reveal a miniature of Miss Edith Emma Cooper (1862-1913) in profile to right against a blue ground, protected by glass. Case covered in red leather.

J1

Opened in 1990, J1 is a standing space with a capacity of up to 1050.

It’s where I mainly host my club and live music nights (the biggest and best in Cambridge), featuring both established names and rising stars.

I’ve also been known to host theatre performances, due to my flexibility.

J2 a 300 standing or 220-seat space opened in 2005 with lottery funding secured through Arts Council England.

I’m an intimate and uniquely versatile space inspired by Georgian courtyard theatre and present an innovative programme of intimate club nights, comedy, dance, theatre and world & roots music.

J3

J3 opened at the same time as J2 and is my 20m x 10m studio space, specifically designed with a sprung floor for rehearsals and artists' residencies.

It’s also home to my performance development work.

The opening of J2 & J3 has allowed for the increase in my theatre and dance programme and developed a leading role in nurturing regional artists.

J2 cafe is open during events, serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks including quality fresh coffee.

what impact has it made on the group the fact that now the day of the performance has had to be changed to this thus?

it made quite a large impact because me being in the press team we seemed to have the biggest job of all wich was talking all of the old posters town ,creating new ones and sticking them back up and we allso had too ring up the radio and news teams to inform them that we had now changed the date of the performance.

comparison of the two videos ?-

Arco iris- are the cambridge community band and are smaller ensemble that performs in clubs,pubs and festivals.

arco iris - thoughts....

performance -it was performed in a street which gives the impression that it is a really community band .

choreography -the choreography in this video is quite simple ! they have been asked to step from side to side too keep with the right rhythm

costume-they all have (Arco Iris ) -hoddies so it makes it look more professional

lighting -day light

Thudbox-

choreography -the choreography in the show is much more choreographed because this one is a professional show so everyone has their own places on stage and more than just stepping from side too side to keep up they also have some individual people dancing.

performance- Thudbox was performed on stage so it makes it seem more professional.

costume- in thudbox all of the musicians seem to only have white and black on and they are also covered in light to make t a bit more interesting.

lighting -to make the lights on themselves more explosive all of the lights are turned down so that the fairy lights stand out and so that it makes it a bit more interesting.

How do the two groups create a sense of band identity?

arco iris samba - is wearing their own rainbow clothes and performing outside the co-op and as for thudbox they are performing onstage.

How do the different band members interact with one another??

in arco iris they members seem to communicate with each other well and smile at each other allot so you can tell that they are enjoying themselves whereas thudbox has a main lead which communicate by shouting directions .

In what ways do the bands encourage their audience to become involved in the performance ?

i think that arco iris provide a motive for trying to get the audience because it has a comfortable feel of a welcoming community but thudbox i don't feel seemed to do it as well .

How do the band arrange themselves on stage?

thudbox seem to have all the different instruments far away from each other and the same next to each other . and the same goes for arco iris except for they are positioned in a concertinaed row by row .

How are light effects and props used to add an extra dimension to the performance ?

in thudbox they use lights which are wrapped around the drums and the people and on the stage and i think this ads to the effect by making it seem more choreographed and not that i noticed but i don't think that arco iris had any props ?

Ichoose this samba band because it looked like a nice community band because it had alldifferent

age ranges in it and sounded quite good . the performance was not to bad and layout of thier

performance was neat . but they didnt seem to have costumes and if they did have costumes it may

have seemed at bit of a cleaner performance allso to give to the affect it has been performed and

SESSION 40: PLAN FOR TODAY"S CAMPAIGNING

What is the overall plan for campain day -
today i am going out of collage too approach to public to get them to sign my campaign about having more under 18 night clubs therefore i thought that i would go and campaign out side a local night club the junction and to crc because there are alott of other teenagers there.
i will probably speak to each person for about 3-5 min because i will need to catch there information and what they think about my campaign but too get them to talk to be i will use my personality to draw them in and whilst i am talking to them i will use persuasion, information,shock tactics and other.

after i had got all of the signature that i needed i was happy with my result because i had reach a goal of fifty signatures and the avrage amount of signatures in the class was thirteen.
on the monday when we were getting ready for the campaign , i wanted to make lamanate cards with my logo and slogan on to help promote it but not only did we not have enough time but we couldnt manage to find any lamante rolls. so that is the only way that my plan changed but i didnt mind because i still managed to get fifty siganatures.so i do think it was quite succsessfull but when we were collecting the signatures a few of the people said that i should call my campaign " 16+" and not "under 18" because "under 18" makes it sound like any one under 18 can come so if i would do it again i would change the name of my campain to " too have more sixteen+ night clubs in the uk?"

.Tesco's 14 store in the Cambridge area is in Mill Road, Cambridge, one of Cambridge’s most cosmopolitan areas. The No Mill Road Tesco Campaign was set up to oppose these plans, and kept Mill Road Tesco-free for almost two years. Over 5,000 people signed the on-street petition and 1,000 objected to its planning applications. Tesco lost 3 planning applications, an alcohol license application and a public enquiry, leaving it with one of its smallest stores in the UK that it will have extreme difficulty in delivering to. The opening of the store brings the campaign into a second phase: ever-more active support for local traders, and making sure that any breach of planning condition or public safety results in Council action

The protesters tried everything that they could in there power to stop the tescos on mill road going ahead so they tried loads of things like:

Tesco officially registered as having leased the site for 15 years.

Tesco resubmit their applications.

Tesco’s planner tells the council that “The existing building [...] could not accommodate the use as an Express store” because it is too small and the wrong shape.

Councillors due to decide on applications. council planers issuers recommending approval of Tesco’s applications, but the report is so badly flawed that, after complaints from the campaign and others, the report is withdrawn and the decision postponed.

28 January: Date on which Tesco said they originally planned to open.

March 2008

council planner isue a new report They still recommend approval of all applications. Tesco’s PR man says “We are delighted that the council officers have recommended, again, our plans for approval. It isn’t an issue of who shouts the loudest but who can make the argument on the important technical issues that the council needs to consider.”

councilors unanimously reject Tesco’s application for an extension plus refrigeration and air conditioning plant, because they do not meet planning requirements on highway safety and do not retain sufficient parking space and access. They approve Tesco’s applications for a sign and a cash machine.tescos PR man says “This is good news for Tesco. We can now put up the sign and the ATM which means we could open the shop tomorrow.” They don’t.

April 2008

Introduction of a Cumulative Impact Zone on Mill Road. There will now be a presumption of refusal of any applications for a licence to sell alcohol on Mill Road. Tesco are now extremely unlikely to be given an alcohol licence if they ever get planning permission for the store.

May 2008

Tesco say that they will start work on the store in July. The campaign points out this would mean they were intending to start work before they got planning permission. (It never happens.)

Squatters (unconnected with the campaign) move into the site and open a social centre. Tesco say they will not be evicting the squatters until they are able to start work on the store. This later turns out to be untrue.

June 2008

Tesco make another applacation, for air conditioning and refrigeration plant.

Over 5000 people have now signed the petition.

July 2008

Once again, council planners recommend approval for Tesco’s application.

councilors reject Tesco’s application on grounds of highway safety and because the application does not address questions about noise pollution, servicing, storage and car parking. The next morning, although they still can’t start work on the store, Tesco send bailiffs in to evict the social centre. The Cambridge Evening News calls on Tesco to “admit defeat”.

Tesco appeals against refusal of the application for air conditioning and refrigeration plant.

September-October 2008

public inquiry into refusal of the first application. Tesco’s transport expert tells the inquiry that Tesco need to be allowed to use large delivery veachles at the site, and that any approval that limited them to using smaller vans would be of no use to them.

November 2008

the planning inspector dismisses tescos appeal against the first refusal, on the grounds that all proposed delivery options for the store would “pose unacceptable risks to highway safety”. Tesco’s spokeswoman says that “we are obviously extremely disappointed”. The Cambridge Evening News says that, “in the interests of local democracy”, the decision “should be the final nail in the coffin” of a Tesco Express on Mill Road.

February 2009

Proofs of evidence by Tesco and the council are due to be sent to the Planning Inspectorate, for the second appeal. Instead,tescos withdrawal their appeal without explanation

Despite having said the existing building would be too small for a Tesco Express, Tesco say they are still looking at ways to open on the site.

After we had made out campaign and done the polls,the t-shirt and the photo shoot we had to make a video of us asking people why they thought our campaign was a good idea ?

the weeks review homework -

at the beginning of the week we had to write an action plan of what we would like to achieve for the week before we started . my action plan said that i would like to have completed my slide show,done more blogs and put my photos up on FlickR and i hadn't completed any of them apart from putting my photos up on FlickR . And i felt bad because i should of done that by now .

so on Tuesday we had started to cut out our stencils and by the afternoon we had all finished and ready to start to screen print but Steve said that because mine was so delicate an had allot of small parts to it i would be better off using card under the t0shirt and stiking it down to the t-shirt with masking tape rather than using the actually screen printing equipment. and it took me about fifteen minutes to finish painting my t-shirt and so that it would dry faster we had to carefully take the masking tape straight away and then i stuck it on the wall.

now that we had finished our t-shirts we could do the photo shot of everyone in their t-shirts ,solo and group .so that we could See what everyone t-shirts looked like on and i think that everyone looked really good ,especially because our t-shirts had to be made to fit around our campaign ideas so our t-shirts might not all looked that good .they might just look quite plain as if they were just saying the message but none of them looked like that the all looked we doodey and like every one had put allot of hard work into them. when we were doing the photo shot we had Steve's camera but we all so had Leanne's,Amber's and Sunny's and they all took allot of pitchers of every one and all of the pitcher went on FaceBook and FlickR for people to review . 310

they were put up onto facebook straight away and some people left coment under the pitchures saying that they liked our t-shirts and come said that other campaighn ideas were good ideas .

i edited my stencil on photoshop so that when i come to make it , i would not be so hard to create , so i made it more simple by creating bridges, i also made it just one colors because we only have a min of four that we are allowed too use.

nothing really went well today because i did not manage to finish it so i will have to do that as-well as screen-printing planing,health and safety and budgeting.

on wedenesday we had more lessons so therefore we had more time to complete our blogger work and our t-shirts . during the lessons we started to screen print our stencills onto the t-shirts after cutting them out . and then because we had stuck the stencills onto the t-shirts onto the t-shirts with masking tape so that it would stay they ,we had to take it off idmeadetly so that it could dry faster.

on thusday we had one lesson in the morning to complete wrinten work and in the afternoon and then at 12.45 we headed down to the junction to talk about the promotion of the junction and how they decide which posters,flyers,brochers ect.. to use and we allso talked about which band and solo artist we would like to see play at the junction and if we new any new talent so that they could see if they could get in touch with them and we allso talk about how the junction got in touch with the artist that they have play there and they said that it was mainly "myspace".

on friday we a phoshot whith our t-shirts with a graffiti backround and we a group and a solo,silly ones and relaxed wich was fun.

News night special on blood, sweat and t-shirts

Newsnight special with interviews with two of the people that took part in the television series blood, sweat and t-shirts.

interviewed two of the girls that took part in the programme and ask them on their views on clothes being sold so cheaply when they have been made in a foreign country .they all so asked the girls weather or not they had learnt any think over the course of the filming proses.

the other videos were called "primark off the racks" one and two and they tended to show how much primark gets the nation into a big frenzy about bargains.-

they talk about how cheap Primark is and how the low prices of clothes is a big thing now. The frenzy of all this began in Northern Ireland, When they opened the first ever Primark which is called Pennys in Northern Ireland. The big craze for Primark has rised and is one of the most close behind Marks and Spencers. and because of its low prices it means that people come out with bags full of things .so At the end of the day they draw in enough and them as a company eventually keep on earning enough to open more and more stores around the uk to primark nation wide !

my first idea was influence by friends and nick because before we had started designing our t-shirts nick said "on you t-shirt could be a slogan that you and you friends always say " and then i thought of "you need yo calm down" because me and my friends always say that but when it came to putting it into photoshop ,i decided that i didn't like it so i changed it to a marlin Monroe picture
Is the design successful?-
i think that the design is successful in my mind because i am happy with it andf i am happy with it beacues it is a much more cleaner desingn than my first one .
What are the connotations of your image ?-
as my image is black ad wight it doesn't have any connotations.
Does my design address the target audience ?_
i thing that my t-shirt does address the target audience as i think that i would were it also i have seen similar tops with images of marilyn monroe on them in shops like topshop and H&M which are popular shops which appeal to that age group.

aids is a serious problem. In Sub-Saharan Africa someone dies from it every 16 seconds. Getting condoms to Africa is one of the simplest ways of tackling this issue. For my campaign, I want every company and organisation that distributes products to Africa to take condoms along with them. This huge scale distribution could help reduce infection rates and save lives.
